The Inside Scoop on So into You

When developing Leighton character, I drew from what I thought it would be like to be born into a celebrity’s or politician’s family. I remember when Clinton was President how harsh the media was to Chelsey. Even the Bush daughters got into some trouble that teens have gotten into before, and it became plastered everywhere. We have seen celebrity children get into trouble as well. I imagine as much as we idolize their life. It’s far from the norm. You’re always compared to your parent, and their are a lot of expectation of what you’ll do. In addition, people want to get near you for all the wrong reasons, mostly for what they can get from you. I imagine it can for some be a very difficult and lonely existence.

For Leighton, she lives a very conservative life, trying not to gain any attention, has chosen a career not because it is what she wants but is what is expected, and has had her heart broken because of someone using her for their own gain. In addition, her father who she has a difficult relationship has done well in the polls and part of that is due to losing his son, her brother in Iraq war.

February 14,

Garrett and Chloe were married on February 14. Here is a love letter to celebrate their special day.

Love Letter from Garrett to Chloe

To my Red,

Since the moment we met, I have been drawn to you. At the start of our relationship, you were not mine to have, and I had to put those feelings aside. Despite our not being able to be together, I have to tell you, my feelings for you have grown each day. You were the light in my day. You got me better than anyone has before. Your smile lit up my world. Your tears brought it crashing down. Once you were free to be mine, I had to have you. I would have done anything to make you happy. I know that I have not always been very good at not expressing my love for you, and that has led to some misunderstandings between us. I will always regret the time that kept you away from me. Without you in my life, I was a shadow of the man I wanted to be. You are everything to me. I make this promise to you, as we are about to be joined together forever: Not a day will go by that I won’t let you know that I love you. Every smile you give me, I will cherish. And I will always be there to dry your tears. Forever, I shall adore you.

Love you always,

Inside Scoop on So Right with You

Once we learn we are having a baby, our primary hope is to have a healthy child. Sometimes, life sends us unexpected challenges. My own brother’s first child developed Leukemia and passed away at 14 months. I also have an aunt and uncle who had four children, two of which were born with Cystic Fibrosis.

Research from Book – Living with a sibling who has a chronically illness.

When I began brainstorming “So Right with You,” I knew there had to be a good reason for my hero, Garrett, to be so involved, but reluctant to receive any recognition for his work with the Foundation that supports kids with disabilities and illnesses.

From researching, I found that children with siblings who are ill can have both positive and negative reaction. Some may become a caregiver. Others may distance themselves from the ill sibling. I figured in adulthood, they may continue that role and choose careers as a care provider. Others, having separated themselves, may carry around negative feelings of guilt for having separated themselves from the ill sibling or maybe even a sense of abandonment by their parents if parents were understandably more protective of the sibling who is ill.

This gives us food for thought. Some of the stress these families experience can be eased by friends and family. The book reflects this mentality as friends and family come together to make things better for a teen with Leukemia that the Foundation is supporting.

Chloe has a new dress, well cover.

Have you seen it. With the help of Renee Luke from Cover Me, I have decided to feature each girl from the girlfriend series. As they say, out with the old and in with the new. The covers will be a little steamier, too. Can’t wait to introduce you to the other girls, Leighton, Ree, and Harper.

Movies about Women’s Friendships

There is something that has always drawn me to the movies depicting the bonding between women. No matter how many times I see these movies. I want to watch them again the next time they’re on. These movies allow me to reflect on those experiences that are exclusive to women. Who else understands us better, truly has our back, is the best person to take on a road trip (Really, men do not make enough bathroom stops.), to laugh with, to go with us to see the women movies we can’t drag our men to (Who did you see Magic Mike with? I know who I went with.)? Who do we gossip with, and make us do things we’re dragging our feet to do, make us a better person, and are there for us in both good times and bad? This is probably why it plays such a prominent spot in my writing of The Girlfriends Series. Check out my books for more information. Here is a list of twenty movies to consider the next time you want to watch a movie that celebrates the friendships between women.

  1. Steel Magnolias
  2. Fried Green Tomatoes
  3. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya      Sisterhood
  4. Beaches
  5. Boys on the Side (Title says it      all)
  6. Now and Then
  7. Mystic Pizza
  8. Sex and the City (Okay, this is a      series as well as movies.)
  9. The Sweetest Thing
  10. Mona Lisa Smile
  11. The Women (There is a 1939 version      and a 2008 version. I happen to be partial to the 1939 but watch both and      make your own decision)

12.  Bride Wars

13.  Step Mom (Being friends with your husband’s new wife and they look like Julia

Roberts that’s a tough one, but we can all relate to the issues brought forward in

the movie.

14. Bridesmaids

15. 9 to 5

16. Roma and Michelle

17. The First Wives

18. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Girls just love to share clothes)

19. How to Make an American Quilt

20. Thelma and Louise (Now that is taking the being at your back to the edge,

21. The Other Woman (Becoming BFFs with your husband’s mistresses. Wow! You have to check it out.

Let me know of any movies that I should add to my list.

Road to Publication: Promoting

So Right with You is out. Now what? Time to promote. No one ever tells you what it is really like to promote. Perhaps it is best left unsaid, kind of like child birth. After all, our books are our babies, too. So ladies keep those birthing stories to yourself and perhaps it is best if the negative side of publishing is downplayed. Perhaps, if we had know that at the beginning of our journey, we might have given up. Some of the greatest books might never have been written either. So anytime you feel the desire to quit, try looking up some of your favorite authors and see how hard they worked to become best selling authors. And if that doesn’t work for you, contact a friend to talk you off the ledge, so to speak. With that being that said, what have I learned from the two months that my book has been out? To be a writer takes tenacity, hard work, and a bit of luck. I am still looking for the luck, but I still have plenty of tenacity and willingness to work hard. Don’t give up on your dreams.
